Just for fun, we have compiled a list of recognized holidays that involve your pets! Make sure to give them a treat on their special day, just because. 

January: National Walk Your Pet Month! Although this is something you should do year round, falling in January makes it a great new year’s resolution to get in the habit of!

February: National spay and neuter awareness month! Take this time to make sure your pet is fixed and educate others on the need to do so as well!

March: National adopt a guinea pig month! If you or a friend has been dying to get a pet guinea pig, it seems rather fitting to do so in the next month!

April: National Heartworm Awareness Month! This is a great time to makes sure that your pet is seeing their regular veterinarian and getting their heartworm medication renewed –with spring comes lots of mosquitos in the air, and thus a greater need for heartworm prevention! 

May: National Pet Month! Any and all pets are celebrated a little bit extra this month, so make sure to spoil them even more than usual!

June: National Adopt-a-Cat Month! With warmer weather comes more cats out wandering the streets –Spring is the Humane Society’s most popular season of the year, as cats’ most popular mating season is in February-March, with births in the months of May-June. Stop into the Humane Society or any rescue of your choice and give a fur baby its forever home this month!

July: National Lost Pet Prevention Month! This is a good time to remember to make sure that your pets’ ID tags are up to date with correct addresses, phone numbers, etc. in case anything were to happen. Looking into micro chipping is never a bad idea either –if your pet gets spooked and may be easier prone to running away/getting lost. 

August: Rawgust Month! This month is a celebration of feeding raw foods, one of the most biologically appropriate diets you can feed your cat or dog. If you don’t feed it already, feel free to ask your local pet store for more information about the many benefits!

September: National Service Dog Month! Maybe take this time to donate to a local charity or Leader Dogs for the Blind, in support of the lovely service dogs!

October: National Pit Bull Awareness Month! If you’re reading this blog, you’re probably aware of the negative stigma surrounding pit bulls. Take this month to spread positive awareness on pit bulls, as they’re born just as sweet as any other dog!

November: National Adopt a Senior Pet Month! This month is as good as any to give a senior pet a loving home for its final years. If you’re looking for a furry friend but don’t want the hassle of training a puppy, this could be the perfect opportunity for you. 

December: National Cat Lovers Month! All you cat people, this one’s for you! Since December and the holiday season go hand in hand, feel free to spoil your cat a little extra for the holidays –it’s their month!
